Broke is a village well known for its boutique wine production and is usually referred to as the 'Broke-Fordwich' wine region. It is located 189kilometers to the north of Sydney.
Located in the middle of Hunter Valley, west of Yengo National Park, the village of Broke has become the hub of an emerging wine- growing industry. The village’s warm climate and fertile soil proved to be a perfect combination to produce soft and distinctive wines – semillon, shiraz, chardonnay and verdelho as well as Italian varieties such as sangiovese, barbera and dolcetto.
Also proving to be a growing industry in Broke is the olives. Recently, tens of thousands of olive trees have been planted in irrigated groves along Wollombi Brook.
In the month of September, the village celebrates the Broke Village Fair which attracts more than 300 vintage cars and motorcycles from all over New South Wales.
While in Broke, another notable place to visit is the Baiame Cave. It is an 80-hectare site containing rock shelters with several Aboriginal paintings, which are thought to depict Baiame, the Sky Father who created the world through his dreaming.
